Five for Friday (EOY Fun and Slideshow Edition)

Today was work day number one!
I got absolutely nothing so much done!
I found out my teammie and I would be moving classrooms/hallways.
So 2nd grade will have two rooms on one hallway
and the 2 of us will be on another hallway
I must say I'm kinda excited
I've been in my classroom for 5 years and it needs a good purging!
I threw every single thing from my file cabinet away
and
I'm not bring the file cabinet with me!
We both bought binders for filing
and I'm hoping it will help us remember what we already have!

I am the ultimate procrastinator. Tuesday night I was up until 1AM working on our slideshow for Awards Day the next morning! Why or why do I do this every.single.year?
I really didn't think I would get emotional either, but I needed Kleenex just making the damn thing!
It's funny how memories make you miss someone so much
I used Smilebox again this year
and it was the first time I ever bought songs for the slideshow
I usually just use what they have
which is a lot
but I just found the perfect trio!
SMilebox is just so freakin' easy!
I click add song and wa la!
easy to share through email, facebook, blogger, twitter, wherever!
I generate a link and emailed it to parents
I also chose to disallow sharing on facebook
I like having that option since not everyone wants their kid's face on there
And with Smilebox's Teacher Toolbox program, you can get it for a whole year free!
Lots of the designs are free anyhow though
Just my opinion here, they are not paying me to tell you all this
though Smilebox, if you want to just email me!

The Carson Dellosa Lookbook was mailed out this week
Guess who's in there???
She's fake blonde.
She has some tattoos.
She is wearing a strange headband on the back cover.
Yep
ME!
and some amazing other bloggers!
Like
Cheryl from Primary Graffiti
Kristen from Ladybug's Teacher Files
Denise from Sunny Days in Second Grade
Erica from Erica's Ed-Ventures
Erin from Kleinspiration
yea, I know! right?!
I was like the odd new girl among the popular ones!
But guess what?
they are human just like me!
and simply the sweetest!

I was very lucky to be asked to work with CD this year
this was the 2nd year they had teacher bloggers design rooms for them
I won't lie
it's hard to design a whole room in 2 days
including planning and shopping!
But we did it!
Monday the interactive online version will be posted and I'm pumped!
I mean, this is as close to famous as I'll ever be so it is exciting!
My room was also on the email you *hopefully* received about their annual contest!
I'll be sharing more soon!

My babies all finished up school last Friday,
so I was the only person in the house that had to get up before 6AM!
Boo!
But my how they have changed in the past 10 months...

But these crazy boys aren't my only kids!
This right here is why I love my job most every day!
this gorgeous young lady was in my first 2nd grade class
and she "graduated" 6th grade yesterday
so we said goodbye
so sweet
and bittersweet
and that cutie is another one of my babies!
oh! some kids you just never get over
Happy Friday Everybody!

five for friday (last friday of the school year!)

now=super cuteness.
they had to hatch in the boys bathroom at home!
they were sad to see them go!
the doggies probably were too!
always adventure
read more about hatching quail here

later=kinda icky
feathers=icky
these are the quail we hatched 2 years ago.
they now enjoy a life at the local park.

loving the new outdoor classroom
but it looks like a little church with a pulpit and pews!
it was an eagle scout's project
this was ice cream day
I love that boy's face!
this was the second day of our 10 days countdown
that used to be a 26 day ABC countdown
until we
a. got smart
b. or broke
c. or exhausted
d. all of the above
D!
which you can read more about ice cream day here, other days here, here, and more here
3rd grade day, olympics day (on years when there are summer olympics), and so on.
having a new theme keeps me the kids excited and interested into June, which is hard. for me.
we read scholastic news articles, a cool snack each day, and a daily coloring contest which has really kicked it up a notch this year!)

here's the rundown of what themes we do each year:
art day (rice krispy treat paintbrushes, paint canvases, color famous paintings)
dino day (fossil cookies, trading cards, who would win comparing)
beach day (sandy dessert cups, towels, buddy reading, beach boys on the radio)
3rd grade day (multiplication-arrays, EOG practice test)
outdoors day (trail mix, sidewalk chalk, exercising on gonoodle)
ice cream day (ice cream!, ice cream glyph, astronaut ice cream comparing)
game day (last day)
awards and memories day (brunch, slideshow, and candy awards)
sports day (usually field day)
un-birthday day (party planning activity, birthdays around the world mini unit, and eat cake for summer b-days)

sneak peek at my design for carson-dellosa's lookbook!

both boys finished up their regular seasons
we do get two days off before all-star season!
I'll miss it when it's all over
but it's hard to think that way when it's 110 degrees!

I still have 4 more days, but this is the last friday!
So farewell to Kacey's linky for a few
really
this linky is all I post most weeks!
bless y'all who still read this ol blog!

Monday Made it and a SHOE SALE!

It's my FIRST Monday Made it of 2014!

I have noticed a troubling trend with my summer.
I get an idea
I start working on it
I think if something else
I start working on it
I remember something I started in October
I start working on it
and the result is...

a full desktop! haunting me!
My first made it is something I actually made early this month for my students. We needed a new EOY reading assessment that matched the higher expectations of state testing. So I made one. I had planned all year on making one. And guess when I did it? the week of! no surprise there! But those little boogers worked so hard on this test! I go all out too. Go through my memorized state testing speech (because I have given it no less than 20 times!), pull desks apart and turn them backwards to prevent little fiddlers from fiddling. Big deal!
and it is not cutesy either! Because state assessors and I are not on the same page when it comes to layout! I used a basic font and all! But I love the result. You can get a better look here.

my next made it is my fav because it was a child request! Somebody saw his brother had a LEGO Store VIP card and really needed one too! Luckily Mom can remedy this! (and I cannot resist Drewbie's face)

Glitter meets Glue has the best minifigure clipart (personal use only so I wasn't comfortable sharing the cards), but here's how I made them! I do everything in powerpoint. One day I may grow up to a big girl program, but not yet!

I googled the size of a credit card (that may get me on the watch list somewhere, but it's all good), and that's the size I made the rectangle outline. Then added text using KG Defying Gravity and KG Happy Solid fonts, plugged in and cropped a little LEGO dude, print, laminate and wa-la!
So official!
so this is not technically something I made per se, but a guy that works with hubs did! And I love shoes, so I am sharing!
I LIVE IN flats! I used to actually wear heels to work! ha! But this wide footed, bare footed Southern girl loves some flats! But I have wide feet, so I am picky! LOOK AT THESE! Hubs works in hosiery aka socks. And his contact in China created these shoes for his wife! they are socks INSIDE flats...what?!?! WHen hubs first told me about them, I was like yea whatever, Chinese people have tiny feet, they won't make a size 9...wrong! ok, his wife probably has little feet, but they do make size 9!

aren't they awesome! And they are having a summer sale! The price isn't bad anyway, I paid almost 300$ for my teiks...but I paid 39$ for these and they are way more comfy! and washable!
you can see some great pictures on their IG too! and I'm not even getting free shoes for talking about them!
Happy Monday! I hope your week is awesome!

last week of school plans!

can I get a yahoo!
it's finally our last week
it's usually always bittersweet
I LOVE-ADORE this class! for reals
they are jam packed with personality!
and that's just my type!
never dull!
and as much as they are all driving me absolutely insane, I know I will miss the fool outta them!
the past week started our 10 day countdown. If you follow in Instagram, you've seen the pictures.
I'm not ashamed to say we've watched a lot of Discovery Education, BrainPop Jr., and flat out full feature films!
They are wired! so it helps!
so here's what we will be up to!

I couldn't fit every detail here, so I will try to explain what fills in all the gaps!
Each day we will work on our Hashtag Memory Books and a Father's Day magazine

we continue our morning work routine each morning. It's habit. they go directly to the basket to get their books. It would really throw them off if we didn't!

Monday-third grade day
read this post to learn about how we make moving up into a day of learning with cursive monsters, a brochure for the first graders, and play with shaving cream-oh, and read this post, too!

Tuesday-Sports Day
we will work on memory books all week until Thursday when they take them home
we have a kickball tournament with my teammate's class and they are pumped. I won't be trying to do anything serious before we win!
I'll be using Bubbly's field day unit's centers throughout the afternoon

Wednesday-Un-Birthday Day
My teammate made a fabulous birthday unit we will use! We will read about other birthday traditions around the world and play a few birthday games from Teacher's Clubhouse.
The kids who have summer birthdays bring in treats, too.

Thursday-Awards Day
that morning we will sign autographs and have some popcorn centered fun with Bubbly's This Year has Been Poppin' Unit
We use Sarah's Hollywood theme for the awards ceremony. We supply the popcorn and the kids bring in toppings and other party treats.
But I still use my Candy Awards because they fit my kids so well! I add to the file each year! and they are customizable so you can add your kiddos names, too! And even though candy might not win me a healthy kid award, they love the idea and nothing is over a dollar! I find it all at Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, or Target.

Since I love these kids so much, I went a little overboard with my end of year gifts. In fact, I usually just give them an award and shoo them out the door! But I went with the popcorn theme and put little books (dollar tree has great Disney reading comprehension workbooks and National Geo Weird-but-True Fact books), movie star sunglasses (from party city), and a few things from Amanda's End of Year buckets in a popcorn container (also party city).
I found that the movie rental store also gives a free rental for each A and lots of bowling coupons, so I snagged those for the containers too! I will add their awards but I like to hand them out obviously!

Friday-Game Day
many kids do not come on the last day...so we are having game day for the ones who do. They can bring whatever they'd like to play. Many of them will want to help clean up the room, too!

hashtag heaven

i'm addicted to instgram
i freely admit it
hubs thinks I'm a lunatic
I'm an oversharer
I'm that girl who takes pictures of her feet and lunch

so I thought I could turn this addiction into something fun for the kids, too! everytime I take a picture they ask where I'm posting it! ha! They know me so well!

I made two new EOY products to appease my hashtagging addiction until I can be a full time IG'er another week!

this may be my favorite product of the year! I love how it turned out. I love a good black and white layout, too! I even prefer it to color most of the time!

and...

and what's a memory book without matching awards?! am I right?!
I even like the black white version of these better too!
I tried to be clever!
I know this is small, but there are 40 different awards. Not Mr this and miss this, so about everyone has something perfect! I tried to really capture my fun in my students this year!

Third Grade Day! End of Year Survival Blog Hop!

The end is in sight.
You can smell the pages of a book you've been longing to read.
But first, we gotta survive the end of the year!
This blog hop is full of ideas to keep your little monsters busy when we all want to be anywhere but school!

Each year my teammie and I do themed days for the last 10 days. One of the kids' favorite is what we call Third Grade Day!
we focus on what 3rd grade teachers like: fractions. And what 2nd graders think 3rd grade is all about: cursive.
fyi-they no longer teach cursive but don’t tell the kids!
The first thing we did was break out the ol’ shaving cream. Remember that shaving cream is the key to being the best teacher ever!

Later we make “Cursive Monsters”!! I LOVE these. I made them last year and it’s quick, fun, and make an awesome display!

step one: fold the construction paper hotdog and write the students’ names above the fold. I cross the line for y’s, f’s, etc. But it is up to you…
step two: have the students color the lines over and over with crayon. I always use black. It needs to be waxy to transfer.
Step 3: refold and rub away. We used scissor handles, pencils, markers, and table edges until we get it to work
Step 4: decorate your aliens, monsters, whatever you want to call them!
here's a little sign you can add to your bulletin board or display!

and our last activity is making an informative brochure to hand out to the FUTURE second graders! I have no idea why I haven't taken pictures of these-the advice is priceless as you can imagine! Each kid does one and we hand them over to the first grade teachers to send home with their kids. I have used this for-eva! Even when I taught fourth grade. They love it!

Pick up this freebie on TpT!

and now for your next stop...Sailing into Second!
