five for friday (sunday edition)

Only 2 more fridays after this one folks!
Whew!
I might be a little excited.
But then I think about all the awards days planning (trying something a little different...)
plus all our festivities for the last 10 days, but we can do this!
So here's my week!

the butterfly unit is from Linda Kamp and the rest is from me. I haven't posted the quad stuff yet because we are still using and testing it!

and here's the winners from my growing bundles giveaways last week!
congrats y'all!

Five for Friday!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for five for friday!

I don't know about y'all, but this has been the loooooooongest week of the year! Shesh!
Full moon? I don't know if the lunacy is related, but I will use it as an excuse!
But the show must go on, so here's a peek at what I was up to this week! and be warned this is really random!

I have problems with Instagram, as in I see lots of cute clothes and jewelry and follow the IG'er and subscribe to their liketoknowit accounts, and click LIKE on EVERYthing, get the email about the outfits, and then buy it...
luckily one account I LOVE is a set of twins who love target! Go follow the double take girls! such cute outfits! I would've passed this flannel right up at Target if they had not styled it so many cute ways! oh, and the necklace too of course!

My teammate Katie and I have started switching classes in the afternoons. I LOVE teaching science and she loves SS, so I teach science to her youngins twice a week while she covers all the holiday jazz. Mondays are reserved for Letterland and Library and the other two days I repeat the lessons with my kiddos. She used my Day of the Dead unit and this powerpoint! The kids EATitUP every year. They've never heard of this holiday and it's the perfect followup to Halloween, plus it's just so different than our culture! If you didn't snag it for free earlier in the week, it's included in my unit now, as well as separately!

Now I was across the hall teaching matter. Which I love. When I had a kit to use. Y'all, it's hard to teach matter without my kit! But, I just supply my own little experiments now! I started out with a little refresher of what they learned about in first grade, and after watching BrainPop Jr, we broke out the magazines and searched for examples. Finding gas is always a treat! This activity is from Inspire Me ASAP! I've used it for  years now! Next week we will start with experiments because they sure do not believe air takes up space! =)

While I obviously use my unit for teaching the bulk of this unit, I always supplement with a few other amazing resources, especially ones for any crafts, reading, and more experiments! Here are the ones I use! because 2...or 5 Heads are better than one!

My team has tweaked our schedule just a tad to allow for some whole group reading. We actually only had time for our reading groups as it was. So I snagged Cheryl's The Ugly Pumpkin unit and off we went! Oh MY! They LOVED the book (and I do too!) Of course they all thought I was crazy for reading a Halloween book on Monday, Nov. 3, but I promised not all was as it seemed! I won't spoil the story, but it is for THANKSgiving! She focuses on making connections in the unit, so we watched Thank You, Mr. Falker on Storyline today (because Pat writes some great books, but they are long!) and I could believe all the connections they made! And I mean, seriously...look at these gourds! Oh My Gourd! I also love her unit because it has just what I need and not lots of fluff! She has some great book companions! and why yes, I DID hand write that title...I can copy a font like a pro, I just have to look at it and I'm obsessed with this font! I type whatever I want, pull it up on my screen, sit with my sharpie and go!

I also got a couple of tattoos this week. Not great pictures, but the twigs are above my elbow and I just can't get a good one anyway!

Visual Plans-Apples for Big Kids

So I may not be able to keep posting these, but they do help me out each week!
This week we are doing a scaled back apple week. My kids have had apple weeks in PreK, Kinder, and First grade, so I do not go overboard with it. They've done the taste testing...and the apple floating, so we READ a lot about apples and life cycles! I also made a fun math activities with apply riddles. My kids love jokes! I just snagged A Year of Many Firsts' Apple of My Eye unit and I think it will go nicely with my Applicious Printables!
Another reason I made that pack was I will have my first sub on Wednesday. I am nervous y'all. bad. They were slightly crazed children today. I may have used the word "heathens"...so I am hoping if the sub can keep them so busy they cannot talk, all will be ok!
So here's a rundown of our week!

We are reading Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night from the basal and working on retelling. I use the other Henry and Mudge books as read alouds to do the crafts, too. We also always watch the Mastiffs on Animal Planet's Dogs 101. Most of the kids have no idea how big those dogs are! Today we used the retelling cards that come with reading street to write a retelling using only 6 sentences...yes, poor babies had to write/copy 5 whole sentences! Bless!
We also start our Sound Energy unit. Tomorrow we will go on a sound field trip with clipboard in hand, then return to the room to discuss volume. I posted about it on Blog Hoppin' yesterday!
I STILL have not introduced Work on Words...I feel like I am really getting behind, but we have 160 more days and I know I cannot shove everything in half-assed! So here's to hoping tomorrow is the day!
Activities pictured above include:
Common Core Morning Work from Second Story Window
A Boy and His Dog from Amy Lemons
Word Work Trio from 3rd Grade Thoughts
Apple of My Eye from Lyndsey Kuster
Applicious No Prep Printables for big kids from me
Good Vibrations Sound unit from me
Sound field trip freebie from me

Other activities I have and would love to do! It's a 4 day week!
Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed from Bubbly-I will make this fit in! I love these!

there is seriously so much apply goodness out there. Maybe next year I will extend it a little!
Happy Monday!

Wishlist Wednesday! a weekly giveaway!

My girl Jen had the best idea!
We all have TONS on our TpT wishlists...I do anyhow. I tend to wait til I know I need something unless there's a big sale! Then I find more like the very next day!
Well, Jen knows that teachers never rest and really wanted to make me work a little bit more over the summer, so....each Wednesday I will be joining her for Wish List Wednesdays!
As teachers we love some data, and the data shows us how many people have added our shop's items to their tpt wish lists! Cool right?!
And, believe it or not, 457 people have my Marvelous Matter for Little Scientists wishlisted! Not that I blame them, it's the best thing in the store! I firmly believe the best products are ones we have used and tweaked again and again! I have used this one for the past 4 years and edited it a lot over the years!
And it's my most favoritist unit to teach!

SO for the whole week, it's on sale and you can enter to win it! I will end the giveaway on Fridays so you don't have to wait around and see who wins!
Check out the pictures and enter the giveaway! or just buy it! cause that's what I always do! Impulse buyer here!
Happy Wednesday!

five for friday and giveaway winner!

I'll be fast and furious today! I have a talent show to prep for...insert pain in stomach here!
Not a bad week for this teacher! We finished up weather and will be starting sound next week! That's the hardest unit to teach! Ugh! Luckily I have this little baby up my sleeve! And I'm guessing it's tough for others too because this has become one of my top sellers!

It definitely makes my life a little easier!
I love weather and I tried out a new snack this week to finish out the unit. Cause food makes learning permanent, right!? haha!

and I just got this posted a few days ago! I used several of the passages to intro some new concepts before experimenting with them! And the notebooking templates were a perfect assessment!

I used a writing template from Mrs. Cupcake's Whimsical Weather unit and a story frame from Traci Claussen's Fabulous Weather unit to make these! They write about what they would like it to rain and drew it in the clouds! I love how they turned out! We also made the cloud recipe with our snack! I'm still working on poufing those chef hats though!
I got two beautiful packages in the mail! I got my mystery box from Katie! and a little melonheadz addicts surprise from Nikki! Love them!

and if you don't follow me on Instagram @tattooedteacherblog ...then you may not know I'm a new-ish aunt! yay!
well, that obviously calls for a new Alex and Ani bangle! Thanks for having a baby sis!
happy friday! and I also need to announce the winner of my giveaway! I love reading your comments and I really read each and every one of them! Comments are few and far between on blogs these days with instagram and facebook, so I love them!

and you still have a few hours to squeeze in some shopping!

up close and personal with our insects

I have the best tool to share with y'all today.
It's a microscope, but it connects to my computer through a USB cord (so you could connect to other things as well, I just don't have any other things!)
it's called the Digital Blue microscope. It's probably not the greatest microscope in the world, but I love that I can take photos, video, and the scope is removable for looking at things that I may not want to pick up! No, I'm not reviewing this baby! It was inherited with my room, but it's awesome! I found a few online!

Here are some of our pics from this week! Some were alive, others not.so.much.

feel free to use any of these with your students!

It's also kinda fun to look at other things too! and completely kid friendly!

We've also had plenty of other life cycle fun with my Intro to Insects unit and Mealworms on Parade!!
takin notes on insect activity while it's still nice and warm!

found lots of insects in the neglected garden!

Wednesday we released our painted lady butterflies. This one wanted to stay!

I love this! We made birth certificates for our mealworms and he even made their little habitat!

If you are looking for lots of fun with insect life cycles that's super hands-on, try these!

and tomorrow we are using Cara's Hey Little Ant writing activity. We have an early release at lunch so it better take hours!
