Must Read Monday: What Presidents are Made of!

I'm linkjng up with my girl Amanda for a little book linky called Must-Read Monday!

Must-Read Monday Linky

Since it's Presidents' Day, I figured I'd reshare my favorite presidential book: What Presidents are Made of! And this quick and easy activity! After reading it aloud, we begin developing a list of presidential character traits. First, the book is simply to die for! But my literal kids never get it! It's like Amelia Bedelia to them!
Seriously! It's uses everyday objects that are representative of the traits that president had. So cool!

Second, I love any craft I can use their little face on!

we turn this...into this

You can make your own too! Here's my freebie just for you!

and don't forget to check out Owl-ways Be Inspired all week for some presidential goodness!
Happy President's Day!

five for friday

Iiiiittt's Friiiiiday!! ok, it's Saturday, but I had to catch up on my linky parties!
I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching again this week to share five randoms from my week.

This morning I woke up to 1000 followers. Honestly, I was stuck for awhile at 990...but here we are! I appreciate each and every sweetheart that reads my dribble each day! Blogging is such a sanity saver!

this is my favorite craft for Presidents Day. It's from Amy's freebie President's Day pack! {as you can see my kiddos love to use my magnets} I love Abe! He's almost with Reagan, but I love Abe! I can say I loved George until I watched the specials all last weekend on Nat Geo with Mr. Lamb. Wow. Mister Washington wasn't such a nice gentleman!
Did you know he took teeth from his slaves? No wooden teeth there.
that's a little info I may not share for Dental Health next week!

We are almost ready to wrap up our graphing unit. We only have bar graphs and line plots in 2nd grade, so we decided to find out about all our great leader's favorite foods and make a line plot. Can I just say YUCK!

and here's a DJ Inker's freebie from a few weeks back. We did not get to it for Valentines, but it is a great Presidents Day snazzy snack, dontcha think? We actually are using a crock pot. It smelled like fresh cookies on the hallway all day yesterday!

My 1000 followers giveaway will be up and off tomorrow! Be sure to stop by and enter for some fab prizes!

presidential fun recap {and a few valentine freebies}

I wanted to repost last year's post about our fun on President's Day.
I loved how things turned out and in case you did not see the post, here goes!
There's a NEW Valentine Freebie at the bottom!

Last Year
Monday when the kids came in, they had huge funny money bills on their desks. {Dollar Tree!!}I had actually bought them to use for the 100th Day, but time was not on my side.
Needless to say they were ecstatic
Our strategy/skill lesson for the day was an adaptation of Amanda Nickerson’s Character Traits pack.
After I gave them examples of each about myself-short, spunky, stubborn, shy, and pale…they decided which were inner traits and which were outer traits-and they added bossy and best teacher ever to the list…those go hand-in-hand!
Next, I read What Presidents are Made of…oh my! What a great on the whim purchase this was! The illustrations are amazing. I love that the do-dads used represent something about the person. Ah-Ma-zing!

Then we made a circle map of presidential character traits we thought were important to have

and the kids chose one {some did 2} traits they possessed and wrote why that was important. They turned out a-dorable. Here are some favs.

Here they are! You gotta read the one below. A child of my own heart.
